Eye-Catching Headline.
February 7th 2008 06:08
Before you read on, I’d just like to make it abundantly clear that we, Funky and The Jazzman, love everyone and everything. We hold no prejudice; we admire pretty much everyone, and will jump on any bandwagon that’s doing the rounds. (Note to self: good job, that intro ought to keep us out of the courts for another week at least.)
So with that in mind, I feel compelled to share with one and all our Headline of the Week. I found this on the website ananova.com the other day…
“Blind photographer to hold exhibition”
Now, if there are two things that I would consider absolutely compulsory for a human being to bring to the art of photography, it would be (in no particular order) a pointer finger, and vision.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but photography without eye-sight would be like a hairdresser without hands, a council worker without a coffee and a smoke, or the drummer from Def Leppard with two arms. How can it possibly work?
The story under this headline tells us that this photographer has not always been blind, and you can say it’s great that this person would want to pursue a hobby that has always meant a lot to them. However, the question has to be asked: how gratifying can it be to take a picture of something you can’t see, and then develop the picture, which you can’t see, and then, as the headline says, hold an exhibition?
Can you imagine the conversation with the photographer at the exhibition?
Viewer: “Wow, nice picture. Where was this taken?”
Photographer: “Dunno.”
Honestly, I would love to go to this exhibition and meet this person to find out how tragically wrong I am. I’m sure there is stuff going on in this story that I haven’t even thought of yet.
But, for me, it’s just like driving a car, working as a lolly-pop lady, or boxing. There are some things I can’t see a blind person doing.
Finish on a bad pun like that? Sure, why not.
Cheers for reading our blog. I'm still an amateur at this kind of thing so feel free to leave any comments/ abuse/ praise/ tips/ phone numbers or whatever you like!

Pic Mad
OK now I'm ashamed that I've made a joke about it. In reality they're probably beautiful photos.

Hello Lourensh: I'm glad my sources checked out OK! So...you think a blind person has put on a photo exhibition for other blind people. That's even funnier! I wish I had thought of that!
Cheers.
